Kindness of Strangers: Woman Helps 5 Mainers Stave Off Foreclosure for Christmas

Christmas came early for some people in Ellsworth who are facing hard times. Thanks to an anonymous woman, they now have a Christmas to look forward to.

"This was a God sent," said Janic Garland, one of the people impacted, "I want to thank that person. Some people would say it's not much, but for me it was a whole lot."

It is never easy going to bed not knowing what tomorrow holds, especially after receiving a foreclosure notice. In the state of Maine, hundreds of people lose their homes every year and many are living from paycheck to paycheck.

"2 years ago, I lost MaineCare and they started taking more money from my social security check," she said.
