Robocalls: The New Head of the FCC Could Re-open the Floodgates

The battle over robocalling continues between student loan companies and borrower advocates

Add this to the list of things that could change with President Trump’s new administration: the amount of times student loan companies are allowed to call you without permission.

A coalition of 18 consumer advocacy groups filed a petition Wednesday, asking the new chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Ajit Pai, not to reverse a decision made by the body last year that limits the people and the number of robocalls that companies are allowed to make when collecting a debt on behalf of the federal government.

The petition is the latest move in a battle between student loan companies and borrower advocates over the firms’ robocalling authority that’s lasted for more than year.
